SXSW 2018 Done Right: The Breakfast Taco BG Challenge

Drumroll, please…. it's the 3rd Annual One Drop Breakfast Taco BG Challenge at SXSW! 🌮

One Drop ❤ Breakfast Tacos.

This isn't our first rodeo with a taco challenge. In fact, we saw some familiar faces in our challenge crew this year! As always, we were psyched to see both people with and without diabetes join us for the fun. Now, we don't exclude #bgnow checks just for breakfast tacos. But why not celebrate the drop and the BG checks while enjoying the Lone Star State's most authentic culinary treasure?

Who was there?

Our very own Jeff, Rachel, Elise, and Doug K., along with OG One Dropper Doug W! Plus, lots of new, friendly faces, like Patrick and Dave, who wanted a) free tacos (who doesn't) and b) to see just how blood sugar works! We definitely had some OMG moments, like:

  • Doug K's 169 mg/dL pre-taco from his almond croissant 🥐 (it's carbs!)
  • Jeff's 98 mg/dL post-taco without dosing any insulin (whaaa?! 🤯)

Everyone did a pre- and post-taco BG check; those numbers showed us that everyone, people with AND without diabetes, can and do experience the BG rollercoaster.

Here’s How to Play

You don't have to wait for SXSW to come around for a BG challenge. Do it all year long! Here's how it's done:

1) Grab some friends.

2) Pick a challenge food.

3) Check blood. (Friends, even if you don’t have diabetes, you’ve got to check too!)

4) Estimate carbs.

5) Take insulin.

6) Check blood a little later to see how you did!

(Again, friends, that means you too!) You can define the “winner” however you like — we’re all winners here! 🏆

Enjoy the show! 📽

Sit back, relax, and watch us check, (guess)timate carbs, dose, chow down, and check again! #celebratethedrop
