Jeff & Rachel Eat Out: Grey Lady NYC - Part 2

how many carbs should a diabetic have in a day

Throwback alert! 🚹 The making of this video happened well before the launch of our Chrome meter, so we're using old BGM technology. Look how far we've come!

If you caught Part 1 of our Grey Lady video, you saw our pre-meal BGs and grabbed an inside look into our all-my-diabetes-stuff bags! Yep, we've got 'em, too.

The Results Are In

We love eating out. But we know that eating out with diabetes can be a challenge. We've been there, too: you give yourself insulin before your meal, as a good PWD does. Unbeknownst to you, something goes awry in the kitchen; the meal takes longer than expected. đŸ˜±Â Oh yes, the pre-meal insulin crash is real. Luckily, we didn't have one of this time around! This eating out with diabetes experience was AWESOME. We even kicked things up a notch by adding our #BGChallenge! So who won?! Watch our video to find out how we fared in the diabetes vs. super-carby, super-buttery, super-delicious lobster roll challenge! POST-MEAL RESULTS 👇
NOTE: The video only shows a 1.5h post-meal blood glucose check, but I can tell you we each had a pretty smooth evening despite our late-afternoon high-carb meal. No one went above 160 mg/dl! đŸ’Ș

How many carbs should a person with diabetes have in a day?

Whoa, is this a hot topic! đŸ”„ We hear it debated constantly. And for good reason! Carbs are DE-LISH. They're awesome! But they also mean roller-coaster BGs further down the line. Jeff and I are big proponents of the low-carb lifestyle. When we eat carbs, our blood glucose levels introduce an entirely new level of risk, and something as simple as staying low carb keeps that risk at bay. It just works. So lobster rolls and fries were a massive break in our relatively low-carb schedule. 🍟 #allthecarbs But that's just what works for us! Diabetes is not a one-size-fits-all regimen. We all deal with our highs and lows and in-betweens, and figure out what works best for us. Luckily, Jeff and I managed (in this episode, at least!) to keep our carbohydrate woes at bay.
