What is a superfood?

A superfood is a  whole, natural food. They are mostly plant-based however some fish and dairy foods count too. They are nutrient powerhouses packed with antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals.
Watch out for imposters! Some processed foods claim to be superfoods. Because “superfood” is not a medical term, companies can slap this label on their products without regulations.

Vitamins & Minerals

Vitamins and minerals are essential because they fuel normal growth and a healthy metabolism. The human body utilizes vitamin A-E and vitamin K and important minerals (e.g., potassium, calcium, magnesium, and iron).
FYI: The human body cannot produce minerals so eat your superfoods!

Antioxidants

Antioxidants get rid of free radicals therefore protecting the body from damaging inflammation. Examples include certain vitamins (vitamin C and E), some minerals (selenium), polyphenols, and flavonoids. Check out the One Drop Guide to Superfoods!
